What’s Low Back Pain?
Low Back Pain is very different for everybody. Some might have suffered from an injury like a hernia, others might have chronic unspecific pain in the low back. Sitting for long periods, repetitive movements, sports like cycling or running, and many other factors can put strain on the low back. Research has shown that gentle movement & mindfulness can significantly reduce pain.
Is Gentle Yoga for me and my back?
In this Gentle Yoga course, we will move a bit slower to take extra care of the low back. Especially with low back pain, there might be movements that are in fact not beneficial for your specific situation. In each class, we will mindfully explore which poses feel good and avoid those that don’t.
Gentle Yoga has a big focus on relaxation, because often, pain is aggravated by an overactive nervous system. We will not only gently stretch muscles that can help release back pain such as the hamstrings and the hips, but also use breathing techniques, guided meditation and relaxation.
No previous experience required.
What if I have an injury?
While generally, gentle movement is recommended (rather than bed rest) when recovering from low back pain, some injuries need special care. If you’ve suffered recently from an injury, please get approval from your GP that gentle yoga is ok for you to practice.
